Shortlist announced for 2014 PEN Translation Prize

Following up on the announcement made in May, PEN America has just announced this year's shortlist for their Translation Prize. The lucky winner, which will receive $3,000 USD, will be known July 30th. Additionally, almost $150,000 will be distributed throughout 17 other categories, including awards, fellowships, grants, and prizes.

Here's the shortlist:

  • "An Armenian Sketchbook" by Vasily Grossman, translated from Russian by Elizabeth & Robert Chandler
  • "Transit" by Anna Seghers, translated from German by Margot Bettauer Dembo
  • "The African Shore" by Rodrigo Rey Rosa, translated from Spanish by Jeffrey Gray
  • "The Emperor’s Tomb" by Joseph Roth, translated from German by Michael Hofmann
  • "Autobiography of a Corpse" by Sigizmund Krzhizhanovsky, translated from Russian by Joanne Turnbull & Nikolai Formozov
