Colombian author and Nobel Laureate Gabriel García Márquez turned 85 today. He is the most read writer still alive, translated into several languages. It's his birthday, but fans get a gift: Cien años de soledad, one of the most important works in Latin American literature, is now available in ebook format.
The book was published for the first time in 1967 and, since then, it has been translated into 35 languages and sold millions of copies. Last year, after being pirated for so long, the first legitimate version in Chinese was finally published. It is also going to be published later this year in Wayuunaiki, the native language of the Wayúu people, an Amerindian ethnic group of the La Guajira Peninsula in northern Colombia.
